US Troop Deaths… for a nation not at war with Islam…

Marine Lt. Gen. John Kelly, whose son, 2nd Lt. Robert M. Kelly, was killed by a roadside bomb in southern Afghanistan in November 2010:

“America as a whole today is certainly not at war, not as a country, not as a people,” Kelly said in a speech Aug. 28 at the American Legion’s national convention. Kelly is Defense Secretary Leon Panetta’s senior military assistant.

“Only a tiny fraction of American families fear all day and every day a knock at the door that will shatter their lives,” Kelly said.

SEAL Charity Rejects bin Laden Book Donations |

In a statement released this afternoon, the Navy SEAL Foundation said it would not accept any donations generated by the memoir, “No Easy Day.”

There is an interesting and lively debate going on in the comments to this article. I’m interested in 1, knowing if the author has done something he shouldn’t have, and 2, knowing if this foundation is biased in some respect…

A comment:

The Navy SEAL Foundation works closely with NSW Command, so this comes as no surprise. NSF receives support from the public, which may conflict with accepting donations from Bissonnette. I purchased the book on Tuesday and have read a considerable amount of the book and find nothing that would constitute a breach of classified material. All these accusations from the Pentagon are a distraction set forth by the Obama Administration to deflect attention to the real problems Americans are facing, unemployment, high consumer prices, $16 trillion dollar deficit, etc. All I’ve heard is how Bissonnette “violated the disclosure policy” and “may be guilty of revealing classified information.” This topic has been going on for weeks now. If they haven’t found evidence thus far, it is because there isn’t any. This is just an attempt by the Democrats in play to discredit a warrior that refuses to conform to the tyranny of a narcissist. They did it to Cdr. Richard Marcinko, NSW, SEAL TEAM 6, ret. years ago.

Muslims Try to Rewrite Themselves Into America’s History – Godfather Politics

Rarely would I quote a comment to an article. This is an exception. While the article is good and I recommend it to all, it’s the comment that is most impressive:

The first war ever fought by a nascent America was against the Barbary Pirates of Tripoli. They were Muslims who attacked the ships of many nations and either beheaded or enslaved their passengers and crew, holding them for ransom. The newly formed Marines, wearing a wide leather collar to prevent beheading, were deployed to fight them… and they are called ”Leathernecks” to this day. It’s also the reason the scimitar-like curved sword which commemorates the battle is part of their dress uniform. So… indeed…. in the past Islam had some impact on our history….. but it was as our enemy.

This is turning out to be an interesting thread. Another author, Ted R. Weiland, made a post to the above-article that I found very interesting. He said, in essence, that our First Amendment allows to exist in America religions that are antithetical to Christianity. Of course, Judaism is such, though it does not require the destruction of Christianity. The problem with Islam is that it does not allow other religions to exist.

So, I made the following comment:

Mr. Weiland, interesting thesis. I just read a portion of chapter 11 and I find it very illuminating. I’m not so concerned with religions that deny Christ as much as I am with “religions” that seek to deny my life and the existence of our republic! I think we have to come to the sense that such is not a religion at all, but is instead something as abhorrent as Nazism, which also sought the extermination of those antithetical to its aims. We cannot turn something intended for self-preservation into a tool used by others for our immolation, or self-immolation, as it were.

Wow. Look at this comment to my latest AT article:

Couldn’t resist posting a letter I read…

Subject: Gen. Petraeus to Vets

Thanks to my fellow veterans:

I remember the day I found out I got into West Point. My mom actually showed up in the hallway of my high school and waited for me to get out of class. She was bawling her eyes out and apologizing that she had opened up my admission letter. She wasn’t crying because it had been her dream for me to go there. She was crying because she knew how hard I’d worked to get in, how much I wanted to attend, and how much I wanted to be an infantry officer. I was going to get that opportunity. That same day two of my teachers took me aside and essentially told me the following: “David, you’re a smart guy. You don’t have to join the military. You should go to college, instead.”

I could easily write a theme defending West Point and the military as I did that day, explaining that USMA is an elite institution, that separate from that it is actually statistically much harder to enlist in the military than it is to get admitted to college, that serving the nation is a challenge that all able-bodied men should at least consider for a host of reasons, but I won’t.

What I will say is that when a 16 year-old kid is being told that attending West Point is going to be bad for his future then there is a dangerous disconnect in America, and entirely too many Americans have no idea what kind of burdens our military is bearing.

In World War II, 11.2% of the nation served in four (4) years. During the Vietnam era, 4.3% served in twelve (12) years. Since 2001, only 0.45% of our population has served in the Global War on Terror. These are unbelievable statistics. Over time, fewer and fewer people have shouldered more and more of the burden and it is only getting worse. Our troops were sent to war in Iraq by a Congress consisting of 10% veterans with only one person having a child in the military. Taxes did not increase to pay for the war. War bonds were not sold. Gas was not regulated. In fact, the average citizen was asked to sacrifice nothing, and has sacrificed nothing unless they have chosen to out of the goodness of their hearts. The only people who have sacrificed are the veterans and their families. The volunteers. The people who swore an oath to defend this nation.

You stand there, deployment after deployment and fight on. You’ve lost relationships, spent years of your lives in extreme conditions, years apart from kids you’ll never get back, and beaten your body in a way that even professional athletes don’t understand. Then you come home to a nation that doesn’t understand. They don’t understand suffering. They don’t understand sacrifice. They don’t understand why we fight for them. They don’t understand that bad people exist. They look at you like you’re a machine – like something is wrong with you. You are the misguided one – not them.

When you get out, you sit in the college classrooms with political science teachers that discount your opinions on Iraq and Afghanistan because YOU WERE THERE and can’t understand the macro issues they gathered from books, because of your bias. You watch TV shows where every vet has PTSD and the violent strain at that. Your Congress is debating your benefits, your retirement, and your pay, while they ask you to do more. But the amazing thing about you is that you all know this. You know your country will never pay back what you’ve given up. You know that the populace at large will never truly understand or appreciate what you have done for them. Hell, you know that in some circles, you will be thought as less than normal for having worn the uniform. But you do it anyway. You do what the greatest men and women of this country have done since 1775. YOU SERVED. Just that decision alone makes you part of an elite group. “Never in the field of human conflict has so much been owed by so many to so few.” -Winston Churchill- Thank you to the 11.2% and 4.3% who have served and thanks to the 0.45% who continue to serve our Nation.

General David Petraeus West Point Class 1974

I happen to be in the 0.45% and am a retired senior officer that is a combat theater veteran of Operation Enduring Freedom. I’ve had affiliations with the military since the age of 17. We stand together and we are locked and loaded……

Articles: Will Obama Keep Power ‘by Any Means Necessary’?

Just in case anyone thought I’m the only one some accuse of running around with a tin hat… This article broke all of AT’s records for comments. My article of yesterday stands at 279. This one has 604! And yes, it’s that good…

Recently, a source known as Military Insider (MI) met with Ulsterman (UM) at the urging of Wall Street Insider (WSI) to issue a warning.  A section of their conversation follows below:

MI: Approximately two years ago…not quite two years ago…I received information pertaining to an election contingency plan.  For 2012.  After the 2010 elections there were particular operatives…specific to the Obama administration and Democratic Party leadership…indicating an overwhelming need to secure a second term for President Obama.  That document’s title was…(pauses)

WSI: He can be trusted – I give you my word.  Please proceed.

MI: That document’s title was “By Any Means Necessary”.  It was unofficial – but we know it came directly from channels specific to the administration.  We confirmed that.

UM: What channels?  Who are you talking about?

MI: We believe it to have been authored by Mr. Sunstein.  Reviewed and approved by Valerie Jarrett.  Preparations for implementation are being done in part by Mr. Leo Gerard coordinating with…with high ranking officials within the Department of Justice, Homeland Security…and…the U.S. military.

We could dismiss the anonymous Military Insider’s warning as overheated, unsourced hysteria.  Or we could examine it as one more piece of evidence to place alongside all the evidence I’ve described above.

Wargaming Termination of Tea Party Extremists

My article appears today — headlined at American Thinker.

Not in the title, but in the analysis:

Alinsky’s Rule 14:

RULE 14: “Push the enemy so hard with outrageous situations and allegations that he is forced to push back.”  Whenever possible, cause the enemy to respond, and when he does, hold him up for ridicule; then push harder.  (By threatening his security and way of life, you will always elicit a reaction that can be turned against him.)

This from my cousin Fred Buchman:

B-17 in 1943

A mid-air collision on February 1, 1943, between a B-17 and a German fighter over the Tunis dock area, became the subject of one of the most famous photographs of World War II. An enemy fighter attacking a 97th Bomb Group formation went out of control, probably with a wounded pilot then continued its crashing descent into the rear of the fuselage of a Fortress named All American, piloted by Lt. Kendrick R. Bragg, of the 414th Bomb Squadron. When it struck, the fighter broke apart, but left some pieces in the B-17. The left horizontal stabilizer of the Fortress and left elevator were completely torn away. The two right engines were out and one on the left had a serious oil pump leak. The vertical fin and the rudder had been damaged, the fuselage had been cut almost completely through connected only at two small parts of the frame and the radios, electrical and oxygen systems were damaged. There was also a hole in the top that was over 16 feet long and 4 feet wide at its widest and the split in the fuselage went all the way to the top gunner’s turret.

Although the tail actually bounced and swayed in the wind and twisted when the plane turned and all the control cables were severed, except one single elevator cable still worked, and the aircraft still flew – miraculously! The tail gunner was trapped because there was no floor connecting the tail to the rest of the plane. The waist and tail gunners used parts of the German fighter and their own parachute harnesses in an attempt to keep the tail from ripping off and the two sides of the fuselage from splitting apart. While the crew was trying to keep the bomber from coming apart, the pilot continued on his bomb run and released his bombs over the target.

When the bomb bay doors were opened, the wind turbulence was so great that it blew one of the waist gunners into the broken tail section. It took several minutes and four crew members to pass him ropes from parachutes and haul him back into the forward part of the plane. When they tried to do the same for the tail gunner, the tail began flapping so hard that it began to break off. The weight of the gunner was adding some stability to the tail section, so he went back to his position.

The turn back toward England had to be very slow to keep the tail from twisting off. They actually covered almost 70 miles to make the turn home. The bomber was so badly damaged that it was losing altitude and speed and was soon alone in the sky. For a brief time, two more Me-109 German fighters attacked the All American. Despite the extensive damage, all of the machine gunners were able to respond to these attacks and soon drove off the fighters. The two waist gunners stood up with their heads sticking out through the hole in the top of the fuselage to aim and fire their machine guns. The tail gunner had to shoot in short bursts because the recoil was actually causing the plane to turn.

Allied P-51 fighters intercepted the All American as it crossed over the Channel and took one of the pictures shown. They also radioed to the base describing that the empennage was waving like a fish tail and that the plane would not make it and to send out boats to rescue the crew when they bailed out. The fighters stayed with the Fortress taking hand signals from Lt. Bragg and relaying them to the base.  Lt. Bragg signaled that 5 parachutes and the spare had been “used” so five of the crew could not bail out. He made the decision that if they could not bail out safely, then he would stay with the plane and land it.

Two and a half hours after being hit, the aircraft made its final turn to line up with the runway while it was still over 40 miles away. It descended into an emergency landing and a normal roll-out on its landing gear.

When the ambulance pulled alongside, it was waved off because not a single member of the crew had been injured. No one could believe that the aircraft could still fly in such a condition. The Fortress sat placidly until the crew all exited through the door in the fuselage and the tail gunner had climbed down a ladder, at which time the entire rear section of the aircraft collapsed onto the ground. The rugged old bird had done its job.

Barack Obama: No Better Friend in the World (to Russia)

A great article demonstrating the problem of having a president who hates America…

It’s not just a couple of worrisome incidents; there is a disturbing litany of acts and policies carried out by Obama that could have been scripted by President Putin and his puppet/placeholder, Dmitry Medvedev.

Pakistan doctor who helped us find Bin Laden in a Pakistan prision…

How is it that we are allowing Pakistan to hold and try for treason the doctor who gave us the final key to locating Bin Laden? We give these people billions of dollars per year…

Senator Rand Paul has a better idea. Not a penny more until you release the good doctor.

But I’d go one further step, or maybe two.

Step one: Not a penny more until you stop 1) allowing the Taliban safe haven from which to strike and kill American forces in Afghanistan, 2) your security services from meeting with the Taliban to advise them on ways to fight American forces in Afghanistan, and 3) your troops from aiding Taliban forces in their lethal rocket and mortar attacks against American forces.

Actually, I might go even one step further. I’d be inclined to cut off all aid regardless. And, if you continue to aid our enemies, you become one as well.

Put that in our pipe and smoke it why don’t you?

Obama frags military voters

From the Washington Times:

The Obama for America Campaign, the Democratic National Committee and the Ohio Democratic Party are suing the critical swing state of Ohio to strike down a law that makes it easier for members of the military to vote. EDITORIAL: Obama frags military voters – Washington Times

Pure disdain for our military. I think I’ll write an in-depth article cataloging his antipathy for the American Warrior.

Why do we play patty-cake with the Taliban?

I do not fully understand the geopolitical issues in fighting the Taliban. But, in a “real” war, where we allowed to actually fight to win, we would be taking out the source of these IEDs. The way we are fighting this looks to me like pure lunacy. Can any of you explain it?

I think both Bushes were terrible commanders of our military. Hell, I think FDR should have listened to Patton at the end of WWII (recall, Patton wanted to fight Russia right then and there). The same goes for the way we played patty-cake in Vietnam… This business of trying to appease tyrants and fighting with one glove behind the back is insanity.

Yet, the day Obama took control of combat in the Middle East we saw a huge spike in combat deaths. I’ve said before I believe Obama did this because he is protecting those of his religion. (Recall, just the other day, what was revealed when he made the comment that AK-47s should rightly be in the hands of warriors, not civilians.) This is exactly the reason our Founding Fathers demanded that a president be “natural born.” They did not want our president to have a divided loyalty.

But, I don’t believe that’s the situation we have with Barry. Not at all! I don’t for a second believe his loyalty is divided.

This Olympics, remember an Olympian who fought Hitler twice

In Olympics And War — He Helped Beat Hitler Twice

This is a story from the 1936 Olympics. The one were Jesse Owens destroyed Hitler’s “Master Race” business by winning gold in the 100, 200, and 400 meter relay.

Foy Draper, part of the Gold-Medal team in the 400 meter relay, was lost piloting an A20 Havoc bomber on Jan. 4, 1943 over North Africa.

But note. Two members of his team were scratched and replaced the night before the race:

In one of the most shameful incidents in sports history, Stoller and Glickman, the only  Jewish-Americans on the U.S. team, were replaced by Owens and Ralph Metcalfe. There are several theories on why that happened, but one was that U.S. Olympic Committee Chairman Avery Brundage wanted to avoid giving offense to Hitler.

So we see that appeasement and politically correct idiocy are not new inventions.
The left has just perfected the art over the last 70 years.

Kill those helping you. Brilliant.

Of note from the Associated Press and appearing at

For the first time we have a rough number of people killed who were trying to help rebuild Iraq:

Navy Cmdr. Duane G. Wolfe was among the 719. He was not fighting the insurgency, but it was fighting him.

He was among the army of lawyers, engineers, contractors and others who paid a heavy price trying to put a broken Iraq and its shattered economy back together.

What in heaven’s name is up with killing people trying to put your country back together? We save you from a tyrant who had killed scores and this is what we get?
